Profile

IIPM-Professor-Prasoon.s.MajumdarProf. Prasoon. S. Majumdar,
All India Dean (Academics), IIPM

Prof. Prasoon Majumdar, presently the Editor, Economic Affairs at Business and Economy (B&E), started his career as a sales trainee in telecommunication sector and then he did something which is seldom in sync with the Indian psyche, i.e. a mid career transition. He left the industry as Sales manager after an eight-year stint and then he came back to where he started from, The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, IIPM. In his capacity as Dean Academics, he operationalised the current national and global outreach programs and many process excellence models in realms of faculty research, pedagogy, and publications. He manages to allocate his time and resources for spotted teaching, consulting, training, research and editorial and communication activities.

Majumdars’ research interests include the links of business (private sector) and economic development, American foreign policy, public governance, international macroeconomic policy coordination, emerging markets (China, India, Russia), global poverty, national economic planning in India, social justice in Indian economy, competitiveness of Indian Industry, leadership in public sector, Humanising Union Budgets and Indian Judicial reforms.

A prolific writer that he is, Majumdar contributes articles and editorials/critiques to the leading Indian business papers. In Jain TV, DD Bharti and DD Metro he is often invited to take part in programmes on current affairs, higher education and national economic policies. He is the lead trainer for UNDP ‘People Living with HIV/AIDS: Leadership for Results programme and co-trainer for very many workshops, conducted under the aegis of ‘Planman-IIPM Chief Executive Forum’.

As the Managing editor of “The India Economy Review” and “Need The Dough”, IIPM’s world-class journals upon Indian economic environment and corporate finance respectively, he bridges the gap between theory and practice in realms of public economics and financial economics. His incisive flair and radical approach to majority of the subject matters is reflected in several economic, political and managerial critiques, under the aegis of ‘SCRUTINY’ in B&E, wherein all articles maintain a sound balance between economic theory and application at both the micro and the macro levels in economics and politics, characterised by standpoints that are decidedly different, refreshingly inclusive, brilliantly acerbic and occasionally shocking. The ever growing feedback points that Majumdar’s genius is to take a seemingly meaningless set of concepts and numbers ferret out the divulging pattern and appreciate what it means, with pluck and disregard for conformist economic beliefs. Finally, here is an economist who states the incomprehensible in terms of obvious and not vice versa.
